Can you blend leafy greens

People drink green juice made from leafy greens for all sorts of ailments. Heart health, cancer prevention, Alzheimer prevention, lowing blood pressure. The list goes on and on. There is nothing bad about mixing fruit with greens, aside from some weird taste combos! Whenever I make a leafy green juice I always add some sort of fruit. Honestly, I cannot recall the last time I made a pure vegetable juice without either a lemon or apple.

Fruits can help make a juice more palatable. Lemon oil which you will get if you use organic lemons and juice their skin has great anti-bacteria properties, for instance. And apples help with blood pressure.

In fact, you only want to use raw spinach. There is only one benefit to cooking spinach or kale and that is the removal of some of the oxaliac acid. However, you are also destroying much of the healthy enzymes and vitamins when you heat the spinach. I suggest juicing spinach raw, but not drinking too much! Simply add handful of spinach i use baby spinach, organic if at all possible. I would suggest mixing a cup of spinach with a green apple, some celery and then a bit of ginger or a half a lemon.

Yes, you can and like spinach, I only suggest that you juice raw kale. Kale and Spinach both have oxaliac acid kale has less, which is why I tend to prefer juicing kale over spinach. However, if you do not have access to organic dino kale, then choosing any organic kale would be my choice. Those news reports about people who were getting sick from eating too much kale, that was because they were ingesting too much oxalic acid. Kale is great for you, but if you over do it you could get upset stomach or stiff joints.

The people who got sick from eating kale were going kale crazy! They were blending up kale shakes morning noon and night and they were eating kale chips as a snack and just going hog crazy over kale. Provided that you have the right type of blender.

A good blender will be capable of blending up spinach, kale, and even herbs such as parsley. The important thing to remember is that you need to have a blender that has a strong enough motor. Some cheaply made blenders simply cannot blend up greens. So I suggest sticking with a well known and well reviewed brand and model the Vitamix, for instnace. The problem with blending greens is that they are tougher than fruit. Most blenders can blend up berries and bananas, but not all blenders can handle spinach or kale.

Unfortunately you cannot blend greens in a juicer. You can juice greens in a juicer, but you cannot blend them. Blenders cannot juice. They are not desinged to. There are no blenders with a juicing option. When you buy a blender, be it a Vitamix, or a Ninja, or any other blender, what you are getting is a machine that is designed to blend.

Blending is different than juicing. I wrote a whole in-depth article that covered the difference between blending and juicing. The reason that you cannot blend greens in a juicer is that the juicer seperates the fiber from the juice. Which is what you want it to do. There are some work arounds, mainly involving berries. What blending with a juicer involves is using a puree attachment like the type that comes with the Omega Juicer and then reconstituting the juice puree with water in some sort of shaker bottle of jar.

Again, this falls under the catagory of make some b. You might, really dont try this, but you might be able to use a cold press juicer as a blender. It will be messy, but if you really must try and use one machine to do the task of the other, then this is the only method. Gain energy. I stumbled across your site while looking for healthier, plant-based recipes to add to my diet while in quarantine. I have always used a smoothie in place of breakfast or lunch but relied on using greek yogurts as a base rather than plants. I have enjoyed all of your recipes and their benefits and will continue to use them throughout the rest of this lockdown and beyond! Thanks so much. Is it right to add coconut milk and oil in the same smoothie?

What is maple water that you mention can be used as a liquid base? Thanks for all your tips!! Hi Marlene! Maple water is a clear liquid that flows from maple trees for a short time in early spring.

Also known as sap, maple water goes through a natural process that infuses it with nutrients. It contains half the calories of coconut water and has a milder taste. Thanks for typing out the formula for a green smoothie. Thought it was just greens and water and didnt sound very appealing.

Sometimes the best things are the easiet and in this case I only have to add some greens to what I already make. I am so happy to hear that this was helpful to you! I tend to lean toward just the berries for my fruits, as they contain the least amount of carbs and I stay away from fruits like bananas, mangos, figs, etc..

I like to add a scoop of low carb vanilla protein powder which also adds to the overall taste since berries are sometimes a little tart and the powder is sweet.

I have used greek yougart in my smoothies with almond milk. Turns out yummy. You can always add more:. Has anyone tried using yogurt as a liquid?

I want to use Oikos Triple Zero because it will give protein.
