Philadelphia rapper Cool C is set to be executed by lethal injection on Thursday. The execution comes 19 years since Cool C was convicted in for the first-degree murder of Police Officer Lauretha Vaird during a bank robbery attempt. Roney was believed to be seen in a surveillance video aiming a gun at the bank's entrance when Officer Vaird, a year-old mother of two, walked into the bank -- after being alerted by an alarm -- and was killed.
According to The Village Voice , despite surveillance video, "ballistic and forensic evidence" and eyewitness reports, Roney, 26 years old at the time, claims he was eating with his mother at the time of the robbery. Cool C's execution was originally scheduled for March 9, , by former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell but was delayed due to litigation issues.
Canty and McGlone received life in prison without parole, while Roney was sentenced to death. Remember the movie "Do The Right Thing", when the race riots were set off on the hottest day of summer? Actual correlation to violence or not, I bet that's the theory. Response by poster: Well, supernova, HE's apparently the exception. I think frogan is right -- jails and prisons are made off site as precast concrete structures.
This reduces cost, construction time, and makes expansion easy. Many of these cells are designed with absolutely no insulation other than the eight inches of concrete. I also only see facility HVAC systems, with no ductwork for obvious reasons injecting or pulling air from the individual cells. Therefore, an inmate isn't going to see a lot of air currents that are being forced through his or her space.
I'd rather jail be cold than hot. People die from crowded, hot conditions. Seriously, one of my worst fears is being stuck inside a hot, windowless cell. I feel woozy just imagining it.
Frankly, I'd rather the guards were comfey than the cons. Jail isn't supposed to be nice. If you're talking about in the US then for sure it's plain cost savings.
Really fascinating read. There is a pretty good correlation between aggression and heat. I'd imagine the answer to your question is a combination of things stated above.
You will appreciate life! In my religion, there is this story of a rich man who went to hell and regretted the reckless and worldly life he lived while alive.
In fact, he even convinces God to take him back to the world and warn his reckless brothers to be serious with their lives. As Mandela once quoted that no one can truly know a nation until he has been inside its jails. It is the best way to improve on your weaknesses.
Why do people go to jail? Is it to get punished or to serve their punishment or is it both? Either way, a society without such a facility would be a big mess. Imagine living next door with Tsutomu Miyazaki or Ted Bundy! In fact, we would have stopped existing at some point.
Easy targets and lots of freedom. Prison is so cool for such criminal minds than ordinary minds. It transforms serial killers, rapists, drug barons into law abiding and responsible citizens. William Sydney Porter, better known by the pen name of O. Henry, discovered his talent for short story writing while serving his time Columbus State penitentiary in Ohio.
Jeremy Meeks discovered his talent for the modelling while in prison and landed a modeling contract from prison in In Florida, where most state-run prisons do not have air conditioning , Climate Central, a nonprofit climate science news organization, estimates that by , the average number of days above 90 degrees in Miami will increase from 86 to Inmates at the Jefferson Davis Parish jail in Jennings, Louisiana, hope for rain to cool down the sweltering jail.
Jennings is approximately 40 miles from Lafayette, where, according to Climate Central , there are approximately 87 days in the year — or nearly three months — when temperatures soar above 90 degrees.
By , there will be such days. Despite the hot weather, residents approved funding for a new jail in only after local leaders promised there would be no air conditioning for the inmates. Last month, St. Louis, Missouri, was in the middle of an extreme heatwave where temperatures reached degrees, with heat lasting over a five-day period.
With extreme heat comes a myriad of illnesses ranging from sunburn to heat stroke, which can be lethal. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers a number of remedies for exposure to excessive heat, like moving to a cooler area or taking a cool bath.
Valley fever, a fungal infection found in Central California that has flulike symptoms, is intensified during heatwaves.
